Burmese Lacquered Betel Box Assortment
Late 19th to 20th century, (5) items constructed of coiled and glued bamboo strips, lacquered and having intricate court scenes from the Ramayana engraved and inlaid using the yun process, and cartouches of finely-rendered Burmese script; used for storing the ingredients for preparing betel, each having (4) parts consisting of a tall base container for storing betel leaves, two internal trays for nuts and lime and a deep lid

Condition: Very Good, all boxes complete; occasional cracks in lacquer, scrapes and abrasions; (1) having a chip to lower edge of base; some retaining residue of lime in trays; overall light wear consistent with normal use
