Hian Shimizu (Japanese, 1883-1975) Calligraphy Scroll
Mid-20th century, chop seal signature lower left, depicting ink washed calligraphy on mottled rice paper flecked with gold, bordered in silk and mounted on paper, wrapped around a wood bar; together with a Japanese fan, chop seal signatures, depicting calligraphy, mounted on paper and bordered in silk, wrapped around an acrylic bar; Tosa School Japanese gouaches on paper including (6) items, undated, unsigned, depicting images of the ’36 Immortals of Poetry’ each under a poem in calligraphy, accented with gold leaf, mounted on linen and in (3) gilt frames under glass, a frame having typed information attached to the verso; (7) other Asian artworks, including (5) gouache paintings on silk, each having chop seal signatures, depicting various scenes of figures, a bird, insects, flowers and a landscape; an ink on paper painting of shrimp, and an embroidery on silk, all unframed; (2) painted scrolls including a watercolor on silk, ink and chop seal signatures lower right, depicting two carp; and a watercolor on silk, ink and chop seal signed lower right, depicting ‘Two Gods of Good Fortune’; each image mounted on paper, bordered in silk and wrapped around a bar
