Utagawa Toyokuni III (Japanese, 1785-1864) ‘Forty-Seven Samurai’ Woodblock Print
Published 1847, printed signature in cartouche lower left, Kunisada, known as Utagawa Toyokuni III, depicting a scene from ‘The Forty-Seven Samurai’; mounted on silk backing and floating, full sheet, within a linen mat in a gold-toned frame bearing Marshall Fields sticker and informational label en verso; together with Northern Indian gouache on linen, Late 19th to early 20th century provincial Mughal style depiction of three young women enjoying refreshments in a garden setting, one holding a bottle and passing the cup; having a gold-toned wood frame; Marshall Fields sticker en verso

Condition: Very Good to Good, Print having waviness in paper allowing slight visibility of silk substrate at edges; stray silk threads at upper right and lower left corners; no tears or holes in paper noted; painting having surface wear to paint at edges and where previously folded and rolled; appears to be attached to backing board, fabric beginning to lift at top edge
